Creativity Abound
Where Talent Works Overtime
Creativity Abound is a high energy celebration of the artists among us. Featuring original work by JSDD staff members, this exhibition reveals the vibrant creative force that lives beyond job titles and department walls. By day, we serve our mission. By night (and weekends, and lunch breaks), we paint, photograph, sculpt, stitch, write, build, experiment, and imagine.
At the heart of our organization is a commitment to supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in building independence, expressing creativity, and living joyful, meaningful lives. It’s no surprise that the people who do this work every day are artists themselves.
From painting and photography to sculpture, textiles, mixed media, and beyond, this exhibition showcases the wide-ranging talents of our team. Each piece reflects the imagination, passion, and individuality that inspires the work we do — and the community we build together.
Creativity Abound honors the artistic voices within our team and celebrates the culture of innovation, passion, and individuality that fuels our mission every day.
Workshop
Beautiful Writing
Sunday July 19, 2pm – 4pm
Led by Tricia Goginsky, Artist Facilitator
Calligraphy means “beautiful writing” and it is usually thought of as a traditional art form that requires precision and a lot of time to master. However, it can also be a playful and expressive personal practice!
In this workshop, we will use simple tools to learn the basic calligraphy strokes and how to turn those strokes into beautiful lettering. After a little practice, we’ll make posters inspired by words that are meaningful to us. This is a non-traditional and fun way to start using modern calligraphy to express your ideas. No previous experience is necessary!
Made possible by funds from the Essex County Department of Cultural Affairs, a partner of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
