Creativity Abound Exhibit features the JSDD Staff!
At Heidi Gallery, two years ago, we held the wonderful, juried exhibit ‘Threads’. This fiber exhibition was very well received by the public, JSDD staff, and the WAE Center members.
It sparked a lot of conversations, one of which I had with a staff member, who said she should have applied for the call for art. It turned out she used to work in the costume department for a television production company. She was incredibly talented.
A light bulb lit up in my mind…Who else had hidden talents amongst the staff of the JSDD?
Fast forward two years and an exhibition window opened in the gallery calendar and that light bulb was still shining.
So, I challenged the JSDD Staff to submit artwork for a juried exhibit. Thursday, July 9th, saw the opening reception of Creativity Abound at Heidi Gallery featuring 47 works of art from 22 staff members who by day, might be found working in Accounting Department, Life | Home Tech, in the WAE Center as Direct Support Professionals or art facilitators, marketing and human resource professionals and the Heidi Gallery Staff itself.
“Employees painted, drew, stitched, crafted, photographed, wrote and baked- allowing everyone to showcase their unique talents and passion for creativity. We were in awe of the vast array of work: including plants and poetry which filled the walls of the gallery. Employees were able to truly get to know one another beyond the constraints of work responsibilities, discovering that our coworkers are talented and complex creatives.”
