JSDD: Life | Home | Tech’s (LHT) new Tech Ambassador Program, which launched late in 2025, brings together a self-selected group of tech‑savvy and tech‑curious WAE Center members. Their perspective is vital—not only to inform the LHT team but to become part of it.
Tech Ambassadors meet several times a month. At our November kickoff, the Ambassadors talked about their goals and “tech confidence” then explored various devices. This sparked thoughtful discussion about technology solutions that could support both their own needs and those of their peers. Among the devices tested were an electric jar opener and a motion sensor light.
A trip to our demo home in South Orange soon followed and allowed the Ambassadors to experience much of the LHT technology and think more broadly about what is possible for them and their role in LHT. The group all agreed on several favorite devices at the demo home: the iPad, Echo Show and the water sensors.
At the next meeting, Ambassadors who had missed the initial trip expressed interest in visiting the demo home. Those who had already gone suggested leading the tour themselves—a peer-to-peer idea that everyone loved. The return visit is scheduled and excitement is palpable.
Looking ahead, the Ambassadors will each select a device to become proficient with, then teach peers how to use it. They will help brainstorm technology classes that reflect their interests and needs and may eventually serve as teaching assistants in those classes. As the program develops, Ambassadors will receive special recognition and take on roles that align with their preferences and strengths.
