WAE to Evolve II – Artists’ Reception

Nearly 100 people gathered to pay tribute to the artists of the WAE Center, for this retrospective exhibit featuring 20 years of visual artwork. Joining the artists were family, friends, supporters, and the staff of JSDD and the WAE Center.

Member artist, Christina M. spoke beautifully about her experience as a long-time member of the WAE Center. Christina addressed the broad impact of her art practice, in addition to the many other creative outlets that she explores in her day-to-day life including digital art/sculpture, theatre, music and cultural studies. Finally, she expressed how the community of friends, facilitators and staff are key to her life and fulfillment.

Mindy and Dean Baker, spoke as the family of long-time resident and artist Debbie H. They recognized the quality of Debbie’s life as a member of such a close community in her home as well as at the WAE Center. The Bakers acknowledged all the staff who support and create so many daily experiences with and for Debbie and her love of her “people,” at JSDD.

The reception was sweet and fun, and each artist received kudos and appreciation from one another, and all the guests present.
