On a beautiful Sunday afternoon at the WAE Center, a big group full of life, laughter, and love gathered to celebrate a milestone birthday for Debbie!
The room was transformed with elegant gold and mint green decorations, reflecting the warmth and vibrancy of the guest of honor, Debbie. A beloved resident and one of the very first individuals to call JSDD home, Debbie was surrounded by family, housemates, and dear friends—all dressed in white—in honor of her 70th birthday.
Debbie is not only an early resident of JSDD but also a long-time member of the WAE Center. Over the years, she has cultivated her passion for art within its walls, developing a unique style known for its vibrant, abstract expression. Her artwork is a testament to her creativity, dedication, and the rich inner world she brings to everything she does.
Aubrie George, Director of Grants and Sponsored Programs, was formerly the WAE Center Director and shared heartfelt remarks about Debbie:
“She is a true friend and a cherished part of our community. Debbie has been with the WAE Center since its early days, forming deep and lasting connections with many members. She is always present with a warm greeting and supports others in countless ways—through kind words, helpful reminders, or simply her gracious presence.”
Debbie beamed with joy, clad in a birthday sash, crown and tulle skirt surrounded by her community. The celebration was filled with meaningful moments and heartfelt tributes. A delicious meal and decadent desserts added to the festive
atmosphere.
Mark, Debbie’s longtime housemate and friend led the group in the traditional “Shehecheyanu” prayer, giving thanks for reaching this joyous occasion, and everyone raised their glasses to toast the birthday girl!
Todd, a lifelong friend of Debbie, reflected on their deep bond, sharing that he has known her for over 40 years: “Our families belonged to the same Temple. I feel blessed to have witnessed her journey and growth over so many years.” Daniel offered warm wishes for “many more exciting and meaningful moments,” while Ralph expressed his hopes for continued happiness, joy, and good health for Debbie.
Alicia brought everyone together in song, leading a rousing rendition of “Happy Birthday” in both Hebrew and English, creating a joyful and inclusive moment.
This celebration was more than a birthday party—it reflected Debbie’s impact on her community and the love that surrounds her. The day was festive, heartwarming, and truly unforgettable.
