New Experiences with Life | Home | Tech at the WAE Center

WAE Center members had the chance to take part in two exciting classes taught by JSDD: Life | Home | Tech Program Assistant Marcia LeBeau and Program Manager Susan Nasberg-Abrams. Both classes, one in cooking and the other in relaxation, highlighted how enabling technology can make everyday experiences more accessible, enjoyable, and empowering.

In ‘Cook With Us’, members worked together to prepare rice and beans using an induction cooktop and an iPad to follow step-by-step recipes. Tools like electronic jar and can openers made the process easier for those with dexterity challenges, ensuring everyone could participate fully. The room filled with the delicious smell of food and the joy of cooking independently.

‘Chill Out’, the relaxation class, offered a new way for members to explore wellness. With the help of meditation and yoga apps, wearable massagers and a Joy for All Pets companion dog, participants experienced comfort and calm. Kevin M. loved spending time with the interactive companion dog, while Rachel P. kindly helped David L. unwind with a massager.

These moments show the power of enabling technology—not only to support independence, but also to nurture connection, confidence, and personal growth. Each tool becomes more than just a device; it’s a bridge to achieving goals and celebrating abilities.
