Shabbat celebrations in JSDD’s homes create meaningful moments of connection, reflection, and joy. Whether gathered in person or virtually, participants come together to mark the transition from the busy week into a time of rest and community.
During recent winter Shabbat gatherings, residents actively took part in welcoming Shabbat by lighting candles, blessing grape juice and challah, and sharing personal reflections. Residents spoke about hopes for the year ahead, expressed gratitude for positive moments in their lives, and voiced wishes for health, patience, kindness, and helping others. Group prayers and Shabbat songs—sung in both English and Hebrew—created a warm, inclusive atmosphere where everyone could participate at their own level and feel spiritually connected.
Whether celebrated monthly in person at the WAE Center or within individual homes with virtual participation, these Shabbat experiences are both educational and social. Residents enjoy celebrating in their own homes, sharing a special meal, and spending quality time together away from daily routines. Above all, Shabbat in our homes offers a consistent, joyful space for reflection, community building, and celebration—strengthening relationships and enriching the lives of those we serve.
